The menu board gives instructions on how to shoot and reload. In case you missed it: If you are on a gyroscope device, tilt your device flat so that the screen is facing upwards then swipe down on the screen. If you are on a non-gyro device (which means you are using the joystick), swipe from top to bottom on the right half of the screen.
Gyroscope orientation is all relative, so whatever direction you are facing when you open the app will become 'forward' in the game. Exiting out of the app and reopening it should cause the gyro to recalibrate to whatever new direction you are facing. The app also recalibrates in between games. Face your desired direction as it fades out, and when it fades back in you will be looking forward again.
The gyroscope is momentum based, so sometimes it will drift. This is why, every time a match starts, we re-orient the game to the direction you are currently facing. Rebooting your device will often fix the drift. Hold down the power button for a few seconds and then slide the slider that appears.
